Janmejoy Sai Babu is a renowned Indian classical dancer and guru, primarily recognized for his mastery of Mayurbhanj Chhau, a UNESCO-recognized dance form. Born on October 29, 1948, in Baripada, India, he hails from a family deeply rooted in Chhau performance. His father was Ananta Charan Sai Babu, also a notable Chhau practitioner. Janmejoy Sai Babu heads the Gurukul Chhau Dance Sangam, an institution dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Mayurbhanj Chhau. His significant contributions to Indian classical dance were recognized with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2017 for his work in Chhau dance. He has performed at various esteemed platforms, including the Khajuraho Dance Festival. Through his Gurukul, he has fostered the next generation of Chhau dancers, continuing a rich family legacy. His sons, Rajesh Sai Babu and Rakesh Sai Babu, are also accomplished Chhau dancers and continue to promote the art form, with Rajesh Sai Babu serving as the director of Gurukul Chhau Dance Sangam.
