Jayanthi Subramaniam is a renowned Bharatanatyam exponent, guru, and choreographer based in Chennai, India. She is celebrated for her brilliant and chaste style, deeply rooted in traditional Bharatanatyam. Her extensive training began at a young age, initially under Dr. Padma Subrahmanian, followed by instruction from personal instructor Kameshwaran, who taught her the Vazhvoor school style. She then underwent rigorous training under Guru Adyar K. Lakshman of the Kalakshetra School, where she refined her core technique. To master the art of abhinaya (expression), she further trained under the veteran Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan. She also learned nattuvangam and the intricacies of rhythm from Bhagavatulu Seetarama Sarma. Jayanthi Subramaniam is the founder and artistic director of Kala Darsana (also known as Kala Dharshana Foundation of Arts), a dance academy in Chennai, which celebrated its silver jubilee in 2013, indicating its establishment around 1988. Through Kala Darsana, she imparts both the theory and practice of Bharatanatyam to aspiring dancers from India and abroad. She is an A-grade artist of Doordarshan, having been featured on its national and regional channels, and is an empanelled artist of the ICCR. Her choreographic works include innovative productions like "Jyotir Gamaya," a Bharatanatyam adaptation of Richard Bach's novel "Jonathan Livingston Seagull," which she presented to commemorate her academy's silver jubilee. Her students have also presented thematic performances, such as "The Goddess Across Time."
