🪔 About
Jolanda Djaimala Boejharat is the founder and main teacher of Indian Dance School Monsoon, established in 1991 in The Hague, Netherlands. She specializes in Bharatanatyam, particularly the Tanjavur style, and also teaches Kathak and fusion forms. Jolanda's training includes guidance from Smt Sitra Bonoo, and she made her public debut (arangetram) on November 21, 1991. In 1994, she furthered her Bharatanatyam studies in Madras, participating in classes taught by Marter Sri M.D. Venkatesh, whose Tanjavur style is rooted in the Sri Kanchipuram Elappa Mudaliar tradition, connecting her to an Indian dance guru lineage dating back to the 18th century. Throughout her career, Jolanda has been a dancer, choreographer, and coach, dedicated to sharing her knowledge of Indian dance. She teaches Bharatanatyam at various levels, from beginners to advanced students, and has guided numerous students, including at least nine, through their arangetram. Beyond her school, Jolanda is also the founder and coordinator of WereldDansWerkPlaats in The Hague, an organization that fosters diverse global dance styles. She choreographs performances, such as "Loss, Memories for the Future" which premiered in 2014, and offers workshops and lectures on Indian culture and dance.
