Jyoti Shrivastava is a renowned exponent and guru of Indian classical Odissi dance, who began her lifelong devotion to the art form at the tender age of four. She received her training from revered gurus including Valmiki Banerjee, Durga Charan Ranbir, and Srinath Raut. Shrivastava also explored other classical forms such as Mohiniattam and Manipuri, as well as various folk dances, and holds an M. Phil in classical music, which deepened her understanding of dance. Her heart, however, remains captivated by Odissi. Her extensive career spans over four decades, with performances across India and internationally in countries like Sri Lanka, Mauritius, the USA, and Canada. She spent two years in Malaysia, working with Guru Ramli Ibrahim and assisting in productions for his Sutra Dance Theatre. Shrivastava has conducted in-depth research and training on the style and compositions of Guru Deb Prasad Das, a lineage she continues to promote as the Director of the Nehru Institute of Odissi Research and Training in Delhi. She is also the director of Vaishali Kala Kendra in Noida, where she trains dancers in Guru Deba Prasad Das's technique. Dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dancers, Jyoti Shrivastava organizes international seminars, symposia, and training programs. She believes strongly in passing on the art form to aspiring youngsters to ensure its enrichment and eternal life. She observes the "Guru Pranam Utsav" classical dance festival in New Delhi to honor her guru, Srinath Raut, and felicitate eminent dancers and musicians from Odisha.
