K.P. Yesodha is a highly respected figure in the realm of Indian classical dance, particularly renowned for her mastery and propagation of Bharatanatyam. Her foundational training was acquired at the esteemed Kalakshetra institution in Chennai, India, where she earned a postgraduate degree in dance. During her time at Kalakshetra, she had the unique privilege of working directly with its legendary founder, Rukmini Devi Arundale, an experience that profoundly shaped her artistic journey. As a performer, Yesodha graced numerous stages across India and internationally, touring with Kalakshetra's illustrious dance company. Her international performances took her to countries such as Egypt, Japan, France, and the U.S.A., showcasing the rich tradition of Bharatanatyam to global audiences. Following her extensive performing career, K.P. Yesodha transitioned into a significant role as an educator and institution head. She currently directs the Chennai branch of Kalanjali, an institution dedicated to Indian classical dance, located in Adyar. In this capacity, she continues to uphold the rigorous standards and artistic integrity of the Kalakshetra tradition. Yesodha is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers, regularly conducting classes, programs, and workshops. She frequently travels to the U.S.A. to train Kalanjali dancers, demonstrating her dedication to fostering Bharatanatyam globally. Her teaching legacy includes notable students such as Janaki and Pallavi Sharma, who completed their Bharatanatyam Arangetrams under her strict guidance, and Tanu Sreedharan, who continued her advanced studies with Yesodha. K.P. Yesodha also continues to perform, as evidenced by a duet Bharatanatyam performance with Dr. Priya Sreedharan at the American Center in Delhi in 2016. Her multifaceted career as a performer, teacher, and institution head underscores her significant contribution to Indian classical dance.
