Kalamandalam K. G. Vasudevan Nair is a renowned Kathakali dancer and maestro from Kerala, India, born in 1937 in Keerikkad, Alappuzha district. He began his Kathakali training at an early age under the tutelage of Evoor Raghavan Pillai, making his debut as Krishna in Gurudakshina at the Evur Sree Krishna Temple at the age of 11. He continued his studies under K. R. Kumaran Nair and Vazhenkada Kunchu Nair before joining Kerala Kalamandalam at 14 for a post-diploma in Kathakali, where he was trained by eminent gurus such as Ramankutty Nair and Padmanabhan Nair. Vasudevan Nair specializes in the Kalluvazhi style of Kathakali and is highly acclaimed for his portrayals of both Pacha (pious, gentle, and noble) and Kathi (anti-heroic and negative) characters. His notable male roles include Rukmangada, Nala, Krishna, Kichaka, Ravana, and Bahuka, while his female portrayals of Urvashi, Lalitha, Damayanti, and Mohini have also garnered significant appreciation. He has performed and conducted lecture-demonstrations across India, several European countries, and the United States. Beyond performing, he has dedicated himself to teaching, serving as a Kathakali instructor at the Gandhi Seva Sadan Kathakali Academy and Vellinezhi Government High School. His prominent disciples include Sadanam Krishnankutty and Sadanam P. V. Balakrishnan. He is currently a member of the Governing Body of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.
