🪔 About
Kalamandalam Sajan, a distinguished Kathakali artist, was born on May 28, 1972, into the Pulloor Mana family in Wandoor, Kerala, India. He embarked on his journey in Indian classical dance by joining Kerala Kalamandalam, a premier institution for traditional performing arts, as a student. His rigorous training included six years in "Kathakali Vesham," followed by a two-year post-graduate course, where he honed his skills in the intricate dance-drama form of Kathakali. Even at a young age of 28, Sajan demonstrated remarkable proficiency in performing leading roles in Kathakali. He is particularly recognized for his captivating portrayals in "Sthri Vesham" (lady characters), though he also aspires to perform major male roles. His talent has taken him to international stages; he participated in the "Ramayana" Festival in Bangkok on April 6-7, 1991, where his performance as Sita garnered appreciation from the audience in Thailand. He has also performed in Singapore as part of a Kathakali troupe. Kalamandalam Sajan is regarded as a renowned Kathakali maestro and expert actor. His commitment to the art form extends to teaching, as evidenced by students learning Kathakali under his tutelage as early as 2006. He continues to be an active performer, delivering captivating performances such as his portrayal of Panchali in Duryodhanavadham Kathakali at Nilacampus, Cheruthuruthy, during the Cheruthuruthy Kathakali School's annual day celebrations on December 27, 2024.
