Kalamandalam Soman is a highly accomplished and renowned Indian classical dancer specializing in Kathakali. He is widely recognized for his mastery of the art form and his ability to portray a diverse range of mainstream Attakatha characters with unwavering confidence and captivating renditions. Soman effortlessly embodies iconic Kathakali roles such as Pacha, Kathi, Kari, and the renowned Hanuman in Vellathadi. His journey in Kathakali began as a dedicated student at Kerala Kalamandalam, a major center for Indian performing arts. There, he gained valuable experience in Kalari and received comprehensive training under the tutelage of the legendary Kathakali maestro, Padmabhooshan Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair. He also trained under esteemed gurus like Vazhankeda Vijayan asan and Padmanabhan Nair asan. Beyond his performing career, Kalamandalam Soman is an exceptional teacher, imparting his extensive knowledge and expertise to a dedicated group of disciples. He founded Guruvaram Kathakali Vidyalayam in Lekkidi, Ottapalam, in 2018, which teaches Kathakali dance, makeup, costumes, music, and instruments. This institution is also referred to as Gurukripa Kathakali Vidyalayam. He has conducted online classes, demonstrating his commitment to teaching even during challenging times.
