Kalamandalam Sreekanth Varma is a Kathakali artist, renowned for his expertise in playing the Chenda and Idakka, traditional percussion instruments integral to Kathakali performances. Born on May 29, 1976, in Mavelikkara, Kerala, India, he is the son of Mr. R.R.C. Varma and Mrs. Santhadevi. Sreekanth Varma began his musical journey at the age of ten, learning Chenda under the tutelage of late Ariyannoor Narayanan Nampoothiri and late Varanasi Madhavan Nampoothiri. Following his Pre-Degree studies, he pursued formal training at the esteemed Kerala Kalamandalam in Cheruthuruthy, where he earned both Diploma and Post-Diploma qualifications. His talent was recognized early in his career, earning him the Moothamana Award for Best Chenda student and a Scholarship for young Artists from the Government of India. He is now an established Chenda artist among Kathakali enthusiasts and has had the opportunity to accompany many veteran artists in their performances. He is based in Alappuzha, India.
