Dr. Kalarani Ramachandran is a distinguished exponent of Indian classical dance, boasting over forty-five years of expertise in choreography, nattuvangam, performance, and instruction. She holds a BA in Music, an MA in Dance, and a PhD in Dance History, along with a certificate in Mohiniattam. Dr. Ramachandran received her training from eminent gurus including Sri Palapati Rai Sharai Panay Arunachalam, Professor Anjali Maher, and Sri Shrim Sriraml Achara. She is also a trained vocalist, having studied under Dr. Sri D.K. Jayaraman and Shri Sangot Narayana. As a prolific author, she has penned five books on dance and has contributed extensively to the understanding of dance dramas, including those of Tjaw, in both English and Tamil. Dr. Kalarani Ramachandran is the founder and director of the Nrithyanjali Dance Academy and Nrithyanjali Academy for Performing Arts in Madurai. Her contributions extend to academia, where she serves as a member of the Board of Studies for Madras and Madurai Universities, a visiting faculty of dance at the University of Madurai, and the Head of the Department of Dance at Khalif Kudam. She also acts as an examiner for BA and MA dance programs at MS University, Baroda, and other institutions. She has been honored with numerous awards for her dedicated service to dance.
