Born on June 16, 1934. A Bharatanatyam dancer and guru, prime disciple of Natyacharya Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai, and foremost exponent of the 'Vazhuvoor Bani'. Started learning Kathak at 3.5, then Bharatanatyam under Kattumannarkovil Muthukumarappa Pillai and Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai. Had a successful film career alongside dance. Moved to the US in 1980 to teach. Known for stamina and holding poses. Received numerous awards including Padma Bhushan.
