🪔 About

Kaori Naka is a dedicated and dynamic Odissi dancer from Japan, known for her adherence to the Guru Debaprasad Das style. Her journey into Indian classical dance began in 2003, initially studying contemporary art and Butoh before being captivated by Odissi during her travels in India. She commenced her Odissi training with Miki Nonaka in Kyoto, Japan. Furthering her education, Naka trained at the Chitralekha Dance Academy in Canada. With a scholarship from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Kaori Naka moved to India, where she first studied under Guru Kavita Dwibedi in Delhi for a year. She later transitioned to learning from acclaimed Guru Gajendra Kumar Panda in Bhubaneswar, a torchbearer of the Debaprasad gharana. Guru Panda has praised her dedication, perseverance, and potential to reach the pinnacle of Odissi dance. Kaori Naka has performed extensively at both national and international levels, including in India, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan. Her performances often highlight the distinct expressions and energy of the Debaprasad style. She is also the founder and director of her own institution, 'Debadhara Yoga & Odissi,' which operates in both Japan and Delhi, India. Through her dance and teaching, Naka aims to serve as a cultural bridge between India and Japan. Awards & Honours: Baliyatra Dance Utsav Award (2008).
