Kavitha Laxmi is a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and writer, based in Oslo, Norway. She is the Founder, Choreographer, and Artistic Director of KalaSaadhana, an Arts and Dance Institute established in Sandvika, Norway, in 2001. KalaSaadhana is dedicated to promoting Bharatanatyam and leveraging performance art to convey messages of unity and human connection. The institute adopts an unconventional approach to Bharatanatyam, challenging traditional perspectives by infusing themes with deep cultural and social relevance. They are known for producing their own dance dramas and offering thematic Arangetrams, exploring subjects beyond traditional religious and devotional concepts, such as the 11 Forms of Natyam, Bharathi Poetry, and Women in Tamil Literature. KalaSaadhana adheres to Tamil aesthetics in its teaching and performances, aiming for novelty in theme and staging while preserving the traditional spirit of Tamil dance. Kavitha Laxmi is also an accomplished writer, having published five collections of poetry, a book of short stories, and a work on theatrical art. She also translates Norwegian literary works into Tamil. She is recognized as an empathetic and inspiring dance instructor and choreographer.
