Khalil Alashar is a pioneering Bahraini Kathak dancer, widely recognized as the first Arab man to master this intricate Indian classical dance form. His journey into Kathak began in 2008 while studying political science at California State University, where a street performance captivated him and led him to join the Nupur Dance Academy in Los Angeles. Under the tutelage of Guru Prachi Dixit, he quickly excelled, becoming one of the academy's top dancers and later a teacher. Alashar further honed his skills with esteemed gurus across India, including Tejaswini Sathe from Pune, Maulik Shah and Ishira Parikh from Ahmedabad, Abhimanu Lal and Vidha Lal from New Delhi, and Guru Murali Mohan Kalvakalva from Bengaluru. He successfully passed the Sangeet Visharad examinations and earned a master's degree in dance from Bharati Vidyapeeth. Alashar's career is marked by numerous international performances, including at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Bangkok and the Nehru Centre in London, supported by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR). In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Nritya Shiromani title at the seventh Cuttack Mahotsav in Odisha, India. He also had the honor of performing at the inauguration of the Indian Embassy in Bahrain in 2018. Khalil Alashar is the founder and head of the Tatkaar School of Kathak in Bahrain, where he teaches Kathak to many students, some as young as eight years old. He is dedicated to promoting Indian classical dance and has performed in various productions, including a dance-drama called "The Sword and the Flute" and "Ek Radha Ek Meera" with the Nupur Dance Academy.
