🪔 About
Krishnakshi Sharma, also affectionately known as Mannu, is an Indian classical dancer with extensive training and performance experience in Bharatanatyam, Manipuri, and Kathak. Born as the youngest daughter of Mrinal Sharma, she began her dance journey at the tender age of four and commenced performing on stage by the age of six. Her foundational training encompassed multiple classical Indian dance forms. She achieved her Bisharad in Manipuri dance in 1992 and in Kathak dance in 1995, under the tutelage of Gurumoni Sinha Singh, Guru Arabinda Kalita, and Guru Hajuwari. Sharma's most extensive training, however, was in Bharatanatyam. She performed her Arangetram in Bharatanatyam in 1995 in Guwahati, guided by her guru Padma Hargopal, who was associated with the renowned Kalakshetra in Chennai. As of 2001, she was settled in Chennai, pursuing advanced training in Bharatanatyam and other classical dance forms, while also actively teaching Bharatanatyam. Throughout her career, Krishnakshi Sharma has graced stages across India and internationally. Her performances have taken her to various states within India, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as abroad to the United States, Canada, and Sri Lanka. A significant highlight of her career was a 1999 tour of the United States, where she performed the dance drama 'Mahabharatam' in approximately 30 cities. She also portrayed the central character in the innovative dance drama 'Living Tree', presented under the auspices of the Cleveland Cultural Alliance. Her repertoire includes other notable dance dramas and solo performances such as Sangita Maruti, Agni Sambhuta, Dhanturi, and Tyagraja Baibhabam. Krishnakshi Sharma continues to balance her professional life between Chennai and Guwahati, contributing to the world of Indian classical dance.
