Krishnapriya Ranjith is an emerging Indian classical dancer specializing in Kathakali, a highly stylized classical Indian dance-drama form originating from Kerala, India. She garnered significant attention in October 2023 when she performed her arangettam (debut performance) in the Thekkan (southern) style of Kathakali at the renowned Kerala Kalamandalam. This event was particularly historic as Krishnapriya was among the first cohort of female students to complete their arangettam in this specific style at the institution, which boasts over nine decades of history. Her journey in Kathakali began in 2021 when she joined Kerala Kalamandalam. The inclusion of female students in the Thekkan Kathakali program at Kerala Kalamandalam represents a pivotal moment for the art form, traditionally dominated by male performers. Kalamandalam Ravikumar, the Head of the Department of Kathakali (Thekkan), emphasized the dedication and flexibility of the female students, noting their commitment to rigorous practice.
