K.S.R. Anirudha is a distinguished Indian classical musician, primarily recognized as a left-handed mridangist, composer, and director in the field of Bharatanatyam. He is the son of renowned Bharatanatyam exponent, Professor Sudharani Raghupathy. Anirudha's journey into rhythm and percussion began at the tender age of three, when he was gifted skin instruments by Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadyay in 1980. His initial training was under S.S.R. Krishnan and M. Balachander, followed by intense practice under M.S. Murali, and advanced tutelage from mridangam maestro Shri. Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. Anirudha is celebrated for the 'naadham' (sound quality) of his mridangam playing and possesses the rare ability to simultaneously wield three mridangams, known as Triangam. He has provided accompaniment for many senior dancers, including Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Prof. Chitra Visweswaran, Smt. Sonal Mansingh, Shri. Jayant Kastuar, and Kalaimamani Anita Ratnam. His versatility extends to playing other percussion instruments like Udukkai and Kanjira for dance ballets. Beyond accompaniment, Anirudha composes 'jathis' for dance and enhances recitals with special effects. His contributions to dance also encompass conceptualization and direction. In December 2000, his lec-dem titled 'Nuances of Mridangam for Dance' was honored as the best presentation at the 20th Natya Kala Conference of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. He conceived, composed, and directed the rhythmic-soundscape for the production "Spatika - Beyond Doubt & Illusion" in 2004, which integrated classical Bharatanatyam with elements from tai-chi, kalari, yoga, and the Graham technique. Anirudha was also the brainchild behind "NaMaargam: Knot The Path," an innovative Bharatanatyam presentation that premiered in 2012, breaking from traditional formats. He has also provided soundscapes for several of Anita Ratnam's productions and was pivotal to Shree Bharatalaya's 'Mammudha' production in 2008. In addition to his artistic pursuits, K.S.R. Anirudha is an advocate of the Madras High Court, holding a Master's Degree in Law from the University of Madras.
