Kudamaloor Muralikrishnan, born on May 5, 1971, is a distinguished Indian classical dance figure, primarily renowned for his profound contributions to Kathakali. He originates from a lineage deeply entrenched in the art form, being the grandson of the pioneering Kathakali artist Kudamaloor Karunakaran Nair and the son of the esteemed Kathakali actor Mathoor Govindan Kutty. His family is celebrated for its remarkable three generations of Kathakali artists, a testament to their enduring legacy in Kerala's cultural landscape. Muralikrishnan began his rigorous Kathakali training at the tender age of eight, dedicating a decade to studying under the tutelage of Kalamandalam Ramakrishnan. His artistic development was further shaped by learning from other revered gurus, including Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharody. Muralikrishnan exhibits exceptional versatility, specializing in the portrayal of both "Minukku" (female) and "Pacha" (heroic male) characters, demonstrating a comprehensive mastery over the nuances of Kathakali performance. His career has seen him perform extensively in numerous Kathakali clubs across Kerala, thereby playing a significant role in the preservation and popularization of this intricate classical dance-drama. A notable performance includes his enactment of Karnan in a Kathakali presentation of Karnashapadham in 2023. Beyond his active performance career, Kudamaloor Muralikrishnan also contributes to academia, currently serving as a Malayalam Lecturer at C.M.S. College Kottayam. His unwavering dedication and artistic excellence in Kathakali have been acknowledged through various accolades, including the Kottayam Kaliyarangu Award and a Scholarship from the Human Resource Department. He also received an award instituted in the name of his illustrious grandfather, Guru Kudamaloor.
