Kunchitapadam Pillai was a Bharatanatyam guru who received his training and encouragement from Guru Muthukumaran Pillai in the early 1900s. He was one of the "village boys" from the Chidambaram district whom Muthukumaran Pillai supported to learn and propagate the Bharatanatyam dance form. Kunchitapadam Pillai later became a major guru in his own right. He consistently showed reverence for his guru, Muthukumaran Pillai, by prominently displaying his photo on stage at all functions involving himself or his students.
