Laiphrakpam Ningol Oinam Ongbi Dhoni Devi, born on March 1, 1939, in Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, Imphal, India, is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly renowned for her mastery of the Maibi tradition of Lai-haraoba. Her extensive training in this ancient ritualistic dance form was guided by esteemed gurus including Rajo Amaibi, Baruni Amaibi, Kumari Amaibi, and Kumar Amaibi. Further solidifying her expertise, she earned a postgraduate diploma in Lai-haraoba from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) in Imphal. Throughout her illustrious career, Shrimati Dhoni Devi has captivated audiences with her performances, gracing numerous Lai-haraoba festivals across Manipur. Her artistry has also transcended national borders, with performances at various dance festivals in countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, and Switzerland. Beyond her captivating performances, Dhoni Devi has dedicated herself to preserving and propagating the Maibi tradition. She has imparted her knowledge and skills to countless students at several institutions, including Laihui and the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy. Currently, she serves as a Visiting Guru at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy and holds the esteemed position of Amaibi Asuppi at the Pandit Loishang, Sana Konung, further cementing her legacy as a revered teacher and practitioner of Manipuri dance.
