Lalitha Narayanan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in Melbourne, Australia. Her journey in Bharatanatyam began at the age of five, leading her to become a senior disciple of Prof. Smt. Kalakshetra Vilasini at the Nrithyasri academy in Kerala, where she trained for over a decade. She further honed her skills under the tutelage of the late Padma Shri Adyar K. Lakshman and his daughter, Smt. Induvadana Malli. Her training is deeply rooted in the structured and disciplined Kalakshetra tradition. With over 23 years of experience in learning and performing, Lalitha Narayanan has graced numerous stages across India, often accompanying her guru in significant dance productions. After moving to Australia in 2013, she established Nrithyopasana School of Bharatanatyam in Melbourne, Victoria, in the same year. The school has since grown to include approximately 55 students and has expanded its presence across Melbourne's west and south-east. She teaches Bharatanatyam six days a week, fostering an environment that balances discipline with openness, aiming to build confidence, character, and community among her students. Lalitha Narayanan has been a prominent performer in Australia, participating in various multicultural events, including the Buddha Jayanti festival at Federation Square and the "Multicultural Express" event in 2013, which was broadcast on SBS channel. She has also performed for the Victorian Tamil Cultural Association and regularly features in community festivals. In 2023, she collaborated with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, performing nattuvangam. Her contributions to dance have been recognized with awards at South Zone and National Level competitions in India. She teaches students from diverse backgrounds, including Sri Lanka and Fiji.
