Lalitha Venkatesubramanian is an accomplished Bharatanatyam artiste and teacher, deeply rooted in the Kalakshetra style of Indian classical dance. Born and raised in Singapore, she received her foundational training under the tutelage of the late Mrs. Neila Sathyalingam, the esteemed founder of Apsaras Arts Singapore. Venkatesubramanian marked her formal debut with her Arangetram in 1993. Throughout her career, Lalitha Venkatesubramanian has performed extensively, both within Singapore and on international stages. She is recognized for her ability to blend traditional Bharatanatyam repertoire with contemporary themes, pushing the boundaries of the art form while maintaining its classical core. A notable example of her innovative work is "Finding Dignity – An exploration of mental illness through Bharatanatyam," a production she presented in 2016, which stemmed from her personal mental health journey and aimed to engage audiences emotionally while conveying key messages on mental health issues. Beyond her performance career, Venkatesubramanian is a dedicated educator. She brings a pedagogical approach to her dance instruction, informed by her background as a trained Ministry of Education (Singapore) teacher with a Masters in Education (English Language). Since October 2021, she has been imparting her knowledge and passion for Bharatanatyam as a tutor at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS). In her current stage of life, in her 50s, her artistic focus has shifted towards the intricate art of Abhinaya. She views dance as a spiritual path, a source of calm and a connection to the divine. Outside of her artistic pursuits, Lalitha Venkatesubramanian holds professional qualifications as an accountant and an Accredited Tax Advisor with the Singapore Chartered Tax Professionals, having also worked as an accountant and tax consultant, and briefly as a teacher, before returning to freelance tax consultancy in 2015.
