🪔 About

Latha Krishna, also known as Lata Krishnaswamy, is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and choreographer specializing in Bharatanatyam, with over three decades of stage experience. Born in Chennai on November 6, 1969, to Padmasri Dr. S. Krishnaswamy, a film historian and documentary filmmaker, and Dr. Mohana Krishnaswamy, Latha Krishna began her formal training in Bharatanatyam at a young age. She performed her Bharatanatyam arangetram in 1981 alongside her sister, Gita, under the tutelage of esteemed teachers, including Narasimhachari and Vasantalakshmi. Throughout her extensive career, Latha Krishna has choreographed and performed numerous productions, both as a solo artist and as part of a team. Her notable choreographic works include dance dramas such as "SAVITRI" (based on Shri Aurobindo's classic), "VAIBHOGAMAE" (on Four Celestial Weddings), "BHARATIYIN VISWAROOPAM" (featuring songs by Subramania Bharati), "ROSE OF SHARON" (a ballet on the life of Jesus Christ), "PAADARAVINDAM THUNAI" (a garland of devotional songs), and "GOVINDAM PARAMAANANDAM" (exploring the facets of Krishna). Beyond her contributions to dance, Latha Krishna is also an editor and director of over 200 short films, encompassing both fiction and non-fiction genres. She has contributed more than 100 articles to various magazines and has served as a script and screenplay writer for several of her films. She has also performed lead roles in three television series. Latha Krishna holds the position of Executive Director at Krishnaswamy Associates (P) Ltd, a media production house based in Chennai, and for Indian Imprints, a Video On Demand platform dedicated to showcasing Indian culture globally.
