🪔 About

Smt. Latha Ravi is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, hailing from a family deeply rooted in cultural heritage. Her journey into this traditional art form began under the tutelage of her mother, Smt. Chitra Narayanan. Further refining her artistry, she was meticulously groomed by her late grandmother, Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan, who herself was a revered disciple of the legendary Smt. Gowri Ammal of Mylapore. This rich lineage laid the foundation for her profound understanding and dedication to Bharatanatyam. The esteemed institution, Bharathanatyalaya, was originally founded by her grandmother, Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan, in 1947, with a wholehearted dedication to the art. Smt. Latha Ravi took over the leadership of Bharathanatyalaya in 1986, embracing dance as her life's chosen profession. Under her guidance, the academy has flourished, and she has personally mentored over 140 students through their Arangetram, ensuring the authentic transmission of classical dance traditions and values to successive generations. Her teaching methodology emphasizes not just technical prowess but also the deep cultural and spiritual essence of Bharatanatyam. Beyond her role as a dedicated guru, Smt. Latha Ravi is celebrated for her multifaceted talents, recognized as a flawless dancer, an innovative choreographer, a skilled music composer, a captivating singer, and an insightful author. Her significant contributions have been acknowledged with numerous prestigious awards, solidifying her standing as a prominent exponent of the art form. Today, the enduring legacy of Bharathanatyalaya is proudly continued by her daughters, Smt. Ramya Suresh and Smt. Supprasanna Shrinath, along with other senior disciples, who represent the fourth generation of teachers upholding the institution's commitment to excellence in classical dance.
