Lavanya Prabu is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, passionate teacher, and innovative choreographer, recognized as a senior and outstanding disciple of 'Kalaimamani' Guru Smt. Rhadha, a leading exponent of the Vazhuvoor tradition. She commenced her dance training at the age of nine and performed her arangetram at thirteen. Her career spans over two decades, marked by extensive teaching and performance. Lavanya has performed widely across India, Australia, the UK, and the USA, earning critical acclaim from connoisseurs and the press. Her performances have graced prestigious stages including Nungambakkam Cultural Academy, Karthik Fine Arts, Kapali Fine Arts, Madras Wel Wishers Trust, Shivali Cultural Academy, and Bharat Kalachar in Chennai. She also performed at the International Congress on Oral Cancer in January 1994. A notable highlight of her career includes playing the lead role of Uma in the dance ballet 'Jaya Jaya Devi', choreographed by her Guru, which was staged in various locations across India, the USA, and Canada. Her performances in Chennai at Rasika Ranjani Sabha in 2002 and Narada Gana Sabha in 2003 received significant accolades. In September 2003, she was invited by the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan in London to perform a two-hour recital, which was subsequently telecast across Europe. Lavanya Prabu has also been a part of other renowned dance productions by her Guru, such as 'Meenakshi Ammai Pillai Thamizh', 'Nowka Charithram', and 'Bhavaye Padmanabham'. She secured the first prize in Bharatanatyam at a state-level competition among matriculation schools in Tamil Nadu in 1992 and has won numerous other dance competitions. Her experience also includes participating in lecture demonstrations and performing in teleserials based on Bharatanatyam. Lavanya Prabu is the founder and artistic director of Tatvam School of Dance in Houston, Texas, which began its journey in 2014 and is dedicated to building strong fundamentals through rigorous training and theoretical understanding of Bharatanatyam. She also operates Bharatham Dance Academy in Perth. Her teaching philosophy is characterized by dedication and a unique ability to connect with her students, inspiring them to love and enjoy their dance education. Her students have performed at significant venues, including the Meenakshi Temple in Houston during various festive occasions.
