Guru Lingaraj Barik is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, deeply rooted in the traditions of Gotipua and Odissi. He received his foundational training in Gotipua dance under the tutelage of the revered Guru Birabar Sahoo, an esteemed recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. This rigorous training equipped him with a profound understanding and mastery of the art form. Following his extensive training, Guru Lingaraj Barik emerged as an accomplished performer and a dedicated educator, earning recognition as an established teacher of Odissi dance, thereby showcasing his versatility across these classical Indian dance traditions. He is the proprietor of a Gotipua school located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where he is committed to the preservation and propagation of this ancient dance form. Under his guidance, numerous dancers have been nurtured, including the notable Gotipua dance group "Nakshatra." This group has garnered acclaim for its captivating performances at significant cultural venues, such as an evening dedicated to Gotipua at the India International Centre. Their performances are characterized by perfect control in 'nritta' (pure dance) set to 'pallavi' or 'Swarapallavi,' and an innocent 'abhinaya' (expressive dance) in lyrics by poets like Upendra Bhanja and Banamali. Their rendition of traditional pieces like "Dekho go sakhi, Radha Madhav chali" demonstrates exceptional group discipline.
