Kottakkal Madhu, born on October 26, 1968, is a highly acclaimed Kathakali Musician, Playback singer, and Composer hailing from Kottakkal, Kerala, India. Though born in Kongodu, Palakkad district, he is primarily associated with Kottakkal. He is recognized as a prominent figure specializing in Kathakali music, known for his mellifluous and velvety voice, and his bold experimentation within the art form. Madhu's musical journey began with training in Carnatic Music under Parameswara Iyer and later Madhavan Nair, with whom he specialized in varnams for ten years. He joined the prestigious P.S.V. Natyasangham in Kottakkal in 1980, where he honed his Kathakali music skills under the tutelage of esteemed gurus such as Kalamandalam Neelakandhan Nambisan, Kalamandalam Unnikrishna Kurup, Kottakkal Gopala Pisharody, Kottakkal Parameswaran Namboothiri, and Kottakkal Narayanan. Currently, Kottakkal Madhu serves as a Kathakali music instructor at the P.S.V. Natyasangham, an institution renowned for its Kathakali training and performances. His career has seen him perform extensively across Kerala, India, and even internationally in Switzerland, as part of the P.S.V. Natyasangham Kathakali Troup. He is an 'A' grade artist with All India Radio and is considered a vanguard of the new generation of Kathakali singers, carrying forward the legacy of masters like Unnikrishna Kurup, Hyder Ali, Sankaran Embranthiri, and Venmani Haridas. Throughout his career, Madhu has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award in 2016 for his contributions to Kathakali music. He has also been honored with awards in the name of Mundaya Venkitakrishna Bhagavathar, Kalamandalam Haridas, and Kalamandalam Hyderali. He is married to Vrinda and has a daughter named Krishnendu.
