Vidwan Madurai N Krishnan is a doyen in Carnatic Music and a vaggeyakara (vocalist-lyricist-music composer), representing the Ariyakudi style. He received initial training from his father and elder brother, and formal training at Tamil Isai School, Karaikudi, and Tamil Nadu Government Music College, Madras. He underwent Gurukula Vasam for 18 years under Ariyakudi Sri Ramanuja Iyengar. He is acclaimed as a composer for dance, having composed numerous Bharatanatyam numbers and margams. He has been the Director of Shree Bharatalaya since its founding and gives spiritual guidance to disciples. He has received several awards including Padma Shri.
