Mahesh Mahbubani is a multifaceted artist, director, choreographer, teacher, visual artist, and performer, renowned for his contributions to Bollywood Fusion and Indian Contemporary dance. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Naach Houston Inc., a dance company he initiated in Bombay, India, in 1999, which later found its home in Houston, Texas, USA. Mahbubani's diverse dance background spans India and Europe, encompassing Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Indian Classical, Afro Jazz, and Flamenco. In 1992, he became the first non-resident Indian to receive a full-time dance scholarship to the prestigious Laban Centre for Movement & Dance in London, UK, graduating in 1995 with a BA Honours in Movement & Dance. He is credited with creating his distinct style, Bollywood Fusion, which blends global techniques with an Indian essence. Since 2008, Mahbubani has pioneered dance education in Houston by developing a syllabus-based, structured community dance program in Bollywood Fusion and Indian Contemporary Dance, drawing from techniques like Martha Graham and José Limón. He also founded Moksh Community Arts, a non-profit organization focused on making dance an integral part of community life through cross-cultural collaborations. As a "dance maestro," Mahbubani has conceived and directed numerous acclaimed productions, including "Houston's got Bollywood" (2015-2019) and "Bollywood Blast" (2008-2012), which have been presented at venues like the Miller Outdoor Theater. His work extends to the Bollywood film industry, where he has acted in films like "Taal" and choreographed commercials for brands like Levis. With over 35 years of teaching experience, he is a Master Trainer who promotes Indian culture at mainstream American educational institutions.
