Dr. Manoj Behera is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, exponent, researcher, and guru of Odissi dance, known for his dedication to the Debaprasad Das gharana. He is recognized as a veteran figure in the Odissi tradition. Inspired by the late Guru Debaprasad Das, Behera commenced his formal training in Odissi in 1984, living and learning directly from his guru. He holds the distinction of being the first student from Odisha to achieve a doctorate in Odissi, underscoring his deep academic and practical engagement with the art form. In 1995, Dr. Behera founded Nrutyashree, a dance institution committed to popularizing and preserving the classical dance form. Through Nrutyashree, he continues to impart his knowledge and perpetuate the Debaprasad Das style, emphasizing traditional aesthetics and techniques. His commitment extends to extensive research in Odissi, which has culminated in the authorship of five books: "Mudra Binijoga," "Gyan Sarita," "Nrutya Sanhita," "Nrutya Dhara," and "Odissi Nrutyare Abhinaya." These publications reflect his scholarly contributions to the understanding and documentation of Odissi dance. Dr. Behera has also received significant recognition for his contributions, including a Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
