🪔 About

Mathangi Keshavan is a third-generation Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, carrying forward the legacy of the Academy of Bharata Natyam. She is the daughter and disciple of Guru Gayathri Keshavan, and granddaughter of the academy's founders, T.K. Narayan and Jayalakshmi Narayan. Mathangi holds a Masters in Bharatanatyam and has also received five years of training in Kathak under Shrimati Sania Gopal, a senior disciple of Guru Maya Rao in Bangalore. She is currently receiving advanced training from Guru Urja Desai in London. After graduating from university, Mathangi pursued dance alongside a corporate career for approximately five and a half years, during which she was already teaching and performing full-time with the ancestral academy. In September 2015, she moved to London, where she is now based, continuing to teach, choreograph, and perform in the UK. She serves as the Assistant Director of the Academy of Bharata Natyam. Her artistic practice involves visualizing and exploring inspirations from everyday life to create innovative and futuristic narratives in dance. Mathangi has performed at events such as London's Open Campaign for the Mayor of London and has collaborated with various organizations and gurus in the UK. She has also explored contemporary dance through a summer workshop at Martha Graham in New York.
