🪔 About

Meena Kumari, born Mahjabeen Bano on August 1, 1933, in Bombay (present-day Mumbai), India, was a highly acclaimed Indian actress, poet, and singer, often referred to as "The Tragedy Queen". Her career in Hindi cinema spanned 33 years, during which she starred in over 90 films. While renowned for her acting prowess, Meena Kumari also performed classical dance sequences in many of her films, notably Kathak. For instance, her iconic dance numbers in the film "Pakeezah" were choreographed by eminent Kathak guru Pandit Lacchu Maharaj. She also performed Kathak in films like "Kohinoor". However, her primary profession was acting, and she is not documented as a renowned guru or legend of Indian classical dance who founded an academy, had a teaching legacy, or trained numerous students in the classical dance forms. She passed away on March 31, 1972, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, at the age of 38 due to cirrhosis of the liver. Awards & Honours: Filmfare Best Actress Award for Baiju Bawra (1954), Filmfare Best Actress Award for Parineeta (1955), Filmfare Best Actress Award (three nominations in one year) (1963).
