Meera Krishna is an accomplished Indian classical artist, proficient in both Bharatanatyam dance and Carnatic classical singing. Her artistic journey began at the tender age of three, when she was initiated into vocal music by her mother and Guru, Smt. RadhaKrishna, who hails from the Thyagaraja Shishya Parampara via the Alathur school. For Bharatanatyam, Meera received intensive training in the Pandanallur style under the tutelage of Padma Vibhushan Guru Smt. Sonal Mansingh. Her dance education was further enriched by studying the subtleties of bhaava and rasa with renowned dance scholar Late Shri Jiwan Pani, and the intricacies of rhythm with TalaVidwan Kalaimamani Late Shri Kadhirvelu Pillai. She also explored cross-rhythmic choreography with Smt. Prakriti Bhaskar. Beyond formal training, Meera delved into yoga, Indian mythology, Sanskrit, temple sculptures and paintings, and folk dances to gain a holistic understanding of the art form. Her performance career commenced early, with her first appearance at age five on All India Radio (AIR) Delhi, followed by regular performances on AIR and Doordarshan. Meera Krishna has performed extensively across India and internationally, both as a solo artist and as part of her Guru's dance company. She has represented India in cultural delegations to various countries in South Asia and Europe. Notable venues and festivals where she has performed include the Yuva Mahotsava, Khajuraho Festival of Dance, Narada Gana Sabha, Hamsadhwani, Mylapore Fine Arts, Kartik Fine Arts in India, as well as the Sommerwende International Arts Festival in Berlin, Galway Arts Festival in Dublin, MAPAZ Dance Festival in Zagreb, Kristinehamn Dance Festival in Stockholm, Tokyo International Arts Festival, and Bali Arts Festival. After relocating to Seattle, Washington, in 1998, she continued to perform in major US cities and annually at the Music and Dance festival in Chennai, India. Meera also composes music for her dance productions, and has recorded lead vocals for three dance productions by Shakuntalam and released two CDs of bhajans and geets with T-Series. She is also a dedicated teacher, sharing her knowledge with enthusiastic students.
