Meghala Bhat Hirasave is a prominent Indian classical dancer and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam. Based in Melbourne, Australia, she is a leading performing artist and the director of Art of Vinyasa – Performing Arts and Yoga institute, which operates as a branch of the esteemed Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre in Mysore, India. Meghala's rigorous training in Bharatanatyam commenced at the age of nine under the tutelage of her guru and mother-in-law, Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy. She is an accomplished disciple of Dr. Doraswamy, having graduated from the Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre. Academically, Meghala holds a Masters degree in Bio-chemistry and has achieved distinction in the Vidwath (Dance) Examination conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board, where she was also a rank holder in the Junior Examination. Her career includes serving as a senior lecturer at the Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre. Meghala has graced numerous stages in India and Australia, presenting both solo and group performances. Notable appearances include showcasing Indian Classical Dance at the Victorian state Parliament for Indian Independence Day and performing at the Global Dialogue Foundation in Melbourne, in collaboration with the United Nations. She was also featured in Michel Lawrence's “Indian Aussies” project, which was officially launched during the Commonwealth Games 2010. Committed to promoting Indian arts, Meghala initiated the “Dance Mela,” a classical dance festival in Melbourne, to celebrate International Dance Day and foster cultural understanding. From 2010 to 2013, she held the position of founding Secretary and Advisor for Dance in the Federation of Indian Music and Dance - Victoria (FIMDV). Through Art of Vinyasa, established around 2018, she continues to impart classical dance and yoga education, actively engaging with the Australian-Indian community to share traditional and cultural awareness.
