🪔 About
Meghna Karanam is an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer and teacher based in Sydney, Australia. She is the daughter and disciple of Guru Sri Venkata Ramana, the esteemed founder of Mayura Academy, a school of performing arts with branches in India and Sydney. Meghna recently marked a significant milestone in her dance journey with her Kuchipudi rangapravesha, a debut performance that was noted as the first of its kind in the Sydney classical dance circuit. Beyond her performances, Meghna is deeply committed to teaching and has been instructing alongside her father for many years, aspiring to carry on his legacy by mentoring future dancers. She finds immense fulfillment in helping young dancers connect with the art form. Her dedication extends to community engagement, as evidenced by her work through a Master's program, where she shares Kuchipudi with the elderly, promoting meaningful and inclusive arts education. Meghna's rangapravesha showcased a deeply traditional Kuchipudi repertoire, highlighting the defining features of the dance, including intricate footwork and expressive storytelling. Her performance included pieces like 'Poorvarangam,' 'Gajaananayutham,' 'Mahishasura Mardini Strotram,' 'Bhamakalapam,' and the 'Shiva Tarangam,' where she demonstrated her skill in dancing on a brass plate. Her brother, Anirudh, also a skillful Kuchipudi dancer, accompanied her on the Nattuvangam during her debut. While passionate about dance, Meghna also maintains a profession as a high school mathematics teacher.
