🪔 About

Meghna Venkat is a distinguished Indian classical Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, teacher, author, and lecturer, widely recognized for her significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of this ancient dance form. Born in Hyderabad, she spent two decades of her childhood in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, where her early interest in dance was cultivated. She began her formal training in Bharatanatyam at the age of eleven and is a dedicated disciple of the late Padma Shri Guru Shri Adyar K. Lakshman, under whom she trained for fourteen years in the Kalakshetra style. Venkat has also explored the basics of Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Odissi, showcasing her broad interest in classical Indian dance forms. She holds a Master's degree in Performing Arts from Bangalore University and furthered her academic pursuits by earning a Ph.D. in dance from Annamalai University in 2023, with a dissertation titled "The Impact of Rasa Sutra on Bharatanatyam." She has also qualified for lectureship through the UGC-NET examination. As an accomplished performer, Meghna Venkat is an empanelled artist with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and a graded artist on Doordarshan. In October 2012, Venkat founded Nritya Nadam Vidyalaya in Bengaluru, where she serves as director and lead Bharatanatyam instructor. Through her academy, she provides structured training in Bharatanatyam and is committed to social outreach by offering free dance education and academic scholarships to underprivileged girls.
