Mithun Gill is a Kathak dancer and choreographer based in the United Kingdom. Born and raised in Bedford, he developed an early interest in Kathak, an Indian classical dance form. At the age of 12, he met his guru, Sujata Banerjee, during a community dance and drama project, subsequently beginning formal Kathak classes. Gill pursued higher education in dance, graduating in 2007 with a degree in dance performance from Middlesex University in London. After an eight-year career in customer service, Gill made a significant career change to pursue professional dancing, a decision he made around his 30th birthday. He dedicated himself to catching up on lost training, commuting from Bedford to London for Kathak practice with his guru. His unique performance quality stems from his training in both Kathak and contemporary dance, allowing him a wider movement vocabulary and a strong sense of rhythm and musicality. Gill has expanded his repertoire beyond Kathak to include theatre and contemporary dance performances. In 2019, dance constituted 40% of his income. Notable projects include #MakingManchester with the Olympias Music Foundation, a multimedia initiative exploring migration stories. He also choreographed a contemporary duet titled 'Alex Moses' for the Social Arts Festival. In 2020, he was mentored by Kesha Raithatha for his solo piece 'Unfold Me' at the Emerge Festival in London. He was also recognized as part of Akademi's '40 under 40' initiative in 2019.
