🪔 About

Masako Satou began studying Kathak dance in New Delhi in 1995 under the guidance of Smt. Malti Shyam. She trained in the Lucknow style under Smt. Malti Shyam, Pt. Jaikishan Maharaj, and later Padmavibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj. From 1999 to 2003, she was awarded an ICCR Scholarship to study at Kalashram under Pt. Birju Maharaj. She completed the Kathak Specialization (Post-Diploma) Course in 2004 and the Stage Presentation Course in 2005. She has performed extensively in India, Japan, and internationally. She received critical acclaim for her role in the Kathak ballet Romeo & Juliet choreographed by Vidushi Saswati Sen. She received the Bharat Mitra Samman (ICCR Distinguished Alumni Award) in 2023.
