Monami Nandy

Monami Nandy is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in Odissi, a senior disciple of Guru Sharmila Biswas. She has cultivated a distinct and expressive Odissi style under Guru Biswas's tutelage. As a senior repertory member of the Odissi Vision Movement Centre in Kolkata, Nandy has performed extensively at major festivals both within India and internationally. Beyond Odissi, Nandy's artistic repertoire is diverse, encompassing various folk dances of Odisha. She also has a keen interest in Indian martial art forms, including Mayurbhanj Chhou from Odisha, Kalaripayattu from Kerala, and Thang-Ta from Manipur. Her dramatic skills (abhinaya) were further refined through the Navarasa Sadhana acting course led by Guru G. Venu in Kerala. She has also participated in Kutiyattam workshops by Amannur Rajaneesh Chakyar and various body-based movement workshops with practitioners like Maya Krishana Rao, Preethi Athreya, Prashant More, and Rianto Lanang, incorporating traditional Javanese elements and spiritual dance into her practice. Nandy is also a dance movement therapist, applying her knowledge of movement methodologies to promote collective well-being. She contributes her skills to NGOs addressing issues related to LGBT communities, domestic violence, and mental health. As a choreographer, her original works include the dance-theatre productions "UNTIL THE FLIGHT" (2017) and "Songs of Our Sisters" (2023), which explore themes of shared humanity. In January 2026, she directed and choreographed "To Be A Man," a multidisciplinary dance production presented in Bangalore.
