Namita Mathura is a prominent Odissi dancer based in The Netherlands, known for her dedication to spreading the Indian classical dance form internationally. Her journey in dance began at the age of five with classical ballet, which she pursued for ten years under Mr. Rensen. She later transitioned to Odissi, where she was recognized for her talent by Guru Aasha Rambaren, who encouraged her to further her studies in India. From 2002 onwards, Mathura continued to deepen her Odissi practice under the tutelage of Guru Monalisa Ghosh. Throughout her career, Namita Mathura has achieved several significant milestones. During the millennium, she performed for national television in The Netherlands. In 2016, she made history as the first Dutch Odissi dancer to represent the Netherlands at the prestigious Odissi International Dance Festival in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, where her performance garnered considerable acclaim. Her commitment to dance was further acknowledged in 2021 when she was invited as a speaker at the first Teleconference of the International Dance Council (CID), subsequently becoming a member of this esteemed international dance body. In 2023, she celebrated 25 years of her entrepreneurial efforts in promoting Odissi and was invited to perform at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York alongside Mala Desai. As a dedicated teacher, Namita Mathura has nurtured numerous students through her dance school. In 2011, five of her students successfully performed their mancha pravesh under the guidance of Guru Aasha Rambaran. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Mathura also maintains a career as a full-time lawyer and contributes to various governmental advisory committees.
