Nancy Boissel-Cormier is a French Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, teacher, and researcher. She began her classical ballet training at the age of five, later exploring contemporary dance before discovering Bharatanatyam in France in 1997 with Kalpana. Her intensive training in Bharatanatyam continued in India with Kalaimamani Kuttalam M. Selvam at the Sri Muthuswamy Pillai Natya Laya School in Chennai from 2000 to 2017. She also refined her abhinaya (expressive dance) with Sangeeta Isvaran and undertook a workshop with Padma Subrahmaniam in 2004. Boissel-Cormier received scholarships from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2003 and 2008 for her studies in India. She performed her arangetram (debut) in 2005 and has since toured and performed in France and India annually. Beyond performance, Nancy Boissel-Cormier is a dedicated academic. She holds a doctorate in Aesthetics, Sciences, and Technologies of Arts, having defended her thesis titled "Être artiste femme en Inde au Tamil Nadu : Les nouvelles scènes du Bharata-Natyam" (Being a female artist in India, in Tamil Nadu: The new scenes of Bharata-Natyam) at Paris 8 University in 2017, co-directed with Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Her research focuses on the challenges and paradoxes of being a female dancer in Chennai, the hub of Bharatanatyam and contemporary dance. She has been affiliated with various research laboratories and institutes, including the French Institute of Pondicherry. In 2010, she founded Association Anandi in France, through which she organizes an annual festival in Dordogne and teaches Bharatanatyam and Yoga. She has also choreographed and participated in productions such as "Mayakkam Oxymore," which received the 2nd prize for creation at the international competition Bains numériques #4, and "The Seed Giver".
