Naveena Muthukrishnan is an accomplished Indian classical dancer, practitioner, and teacher of Bharatanatyam and Bharatanrityam. Her profound journey in dance commenced at the tender age of three, under the initial guidance of Shri. Hemnath Shanmugam at the esteemed Shanmuganandha Dance School. It was here that she marked a significant milestone, performing her Salanga Pooja at the age of six, a traditional on-stage demonstration signifying her eligibility as a Bharatanatyam dancer. Furthering her intensive training, Naveena joined Nrithyodaya, where she had the invaluable opportunity to be mentored by the revered Padma Bhushan Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. Under Dr. Subrahmanyam's expert tutelage, Naveena honed her skills and successfully completed her Bharatanrityam Arangetram in 2014, at the age of fourteen, showcasing her excellence in the Bharatanrityam style. With a rich experience spanning over 19 years in the field of Bharatanatyam, Naveena Muthukrishnan has earned certifications such as Nritya Pravesika and Nritya Visarada, demonstrating her comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of the art form. Her training also extends to the intricate 108 Karanas of Natya Sastra, a specialized movement vocabulary preserved through the Nritya Shaali tradition, which forms the foundation of Indian classical dance. Throughout her performing career, she has taken on major roles in various stage productions by Nrithyodaya and Shri Shanmuganandha Dance School. As an educator, Naveena Muthukrishnan established the Narthana Vihar Dance Centre, an institution dedicated to propagating the traditional art forms of Bharatanatyam and Bharatanrityam. Through this center, she offers online classes to a global student base, emphasizing a structured curriculum inspired by the teachings of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam and the timeless principles of the Natya Shastra. Her commitment to the art form and her innovative approach to teaching were recognized in 2019 when the APAN International Conference honored her as the "Dancer on Cyber Cloud."
