🪔 About
Nayani (Nia) Rajamohan is a Canadian Bharathanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer, known for founding Saakshi Innovations, a social enterprise dedicated to fostering creativity and innovation in South Indian classical performing arts. She began her Bharathanatyam training in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) at the age of four and completed her initial training, or "graduated," by age 13. Rajamohan started teaching dance around 2006 and choreographing around 2004. Her passion for dance extends beyond performance and teaching, as evidenced by her commitment to community engagement; at 16, she performed a solo fundraiser that raised $12,000 for an orphanage, and she has also worked with seniors to bring classical art to diverse audiences. Currently, Nayani Rajamohan is pursuing a Math/Business double degree at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier. Her academic pursuits complement her artistic vision for Saakshi Innovations, which aims to provide a platform for dancers to continue learning, innovating, and performing, while also delivering South Indian classical dance and music to underserved communities, including hospitalized children, people with disabilities, and those with dementia. Through Saakshi Innovations, she seeks to address gaps in the arts system by supporting emerging artists and encouraging experimental and creative approaches within classical rules. In Spring 2016, she was recognized as a GreenHouse Fellow for her entrepreneurial efforts with Saakshi Innovations. Awards & Honours: GreenHouse Fellow (2016).
