Neerja Mahra is a highly accomplished Indian classical dancer, educator, and choreographer, renowned for her expertise in Kathak, encompassing all its diverse gharanas, alongside a deep engagement with Indian folk and tribal dance forms. Her artistic journey is built upon a robust foundation of traditional training, cultivated over more than two decades of dedicated learning and performance. She has had the privilege of training under some of the most respected figures in Indian classical dance, including Padma Shri Dr. Shovana Narayan, Dr. Shobha Koser, Dr. Sunita Sharma, and Guru Amit Gangani, which has profoundly shaped her understanding and execution of Kathak, instilling in her a strong sense of tradition, discipline, and expressive depth. Beyond her performance career, Mahra is also a distinguished academic. She holds a Master's degree in Performing Arts (Dance, Drama & Theatre) from Panjab University, Chandigarh, where her exceptional talent was recognized with a Gold Medal in both Kathak and Performing Arts, marking her as a university topper. Her excellence has been further acknowledged through various accolades, including the Best Artist Award from PGGC, Chandigarh, and the Best Dancer in Folk and Classical Dance from Chandigarh. With a teaching career spanning over 12 years, Neerja Mahra is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers. She currently serves as a dedicated faculty member at the Nritta Dhyana Academy in Salmiya, Kuwait, where she specializes in teaching the intricate Jaipur Gharana of Kathak. Her professional experience also includes extensive work as a performing artist with prestigious national organizations such as Doordarshan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi, where she has contributed significantly to classical dance presentations, folk traditions, and various theatre productions. Mahra's approach to dance embodies a unique blend of classical rigor, captivating performance excellence, and a meticulously structured pedagogical methodology, making her a valuable figure in the realm of Indian classical dance.
