With a distinguished career spanning over four decades, Guru Rout has been instrumental in the preservation, propagation, and artistic evolution of Odissi throughout India. His formative training in Odissi was under the tutelage of revered masters such as Guru Pankaj Charan Das, Guru Deba Prasad Das, and Guru Shri Hari Nayak, from whom he imbibed the nuanced techniques, intricate footwork, fluid movements, and evocative expressions that define the Odissi style. Demonstrating a multifaceted talent, he is also an accomplished mardala player, having received guidance from Guru Banamali Maharana. A testament to his commitment to the arts, Guru Niranjan Rout established “Nupur” in 1991, a prominent performing arts institution located in Odisha.
