Josephine Nithya Babou is a Bharatanatyam guru and the founder of Nruthiya Saagaram, the first Bharatanatyam dance school in Atlantic Canada, established in 2013. She began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of three under her mother, Kalaimamani Dr. Lourdes Shanthi. Nithya Babou completed her Arangetram in 2004 and further pursued a Diploma and Masters in Bharatanatyam from Kalai Kaveri College of Fine Arts, affiliated with Bharathidasan University, India. She commenced teaching the art form in 2003. After moving to Halifax, Canada, to pursue her MBA at Sobey School of Business, she founded Nruthiya Saagaram and began conducting classes at the Halifax Hindu Temple. Her students have performed at various events across Nova Scotia, including the Multicultural Festival of Halifax, India Fest, and International Dance Week hosted by Dance Nova Scotia. In 2025, Nithya Babou choreographed a Pushpanjali dance for the Natyanjali festival in Montreal, a performance that blended elements of Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam.
