Nuria Sala Grau is a Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher based in Italy. Originally a contemporary dancer, she was captivated by Bharatanatyam and dedicated her life to it, drawn by its energy and refined musicality. She pursued her training in India under the guidance of esteemed teachers Krishnaveni Lakshmanan and Kamala Rani. Sala Grau's work involves reinterpreting the ancient, hieratic dance form in a modern and Western context, believing that myths can be interpreted and experienced at any time. She views this reinterpretation as the future for dances rooted in cultural archetypes. She teaches Bharatanatyam at the Conservatorio di Musica di Vicenza, within the department of extra-European musical traditions with an Indological focus. Her teaching and performances extend to India, Spain, and various Italian schools.
