Padmarani Rasiah Cantú is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, hailing from an illustrious family in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, known for its patronage of the fine arts. Her dance journey began in the 1960s, and she received training from eminent master teachers including Padmasri Adyar K. Lakshman and Padma Bhushan Sri and Smt. Dhananjayan of Chennai, India. Padmarani has garnered an international reputation, performing extensively in numerous countries and across the United States, earning accolades from both audiences and critics. In the early 1980s, she embarked on a European and North American dance tour with her brother, Dr. Jeyarajan Rasiah. In 1984, Padmarani emigrated to the USA and became the Artistic Director and Instructor of the Fine Arts Society (FAS) of Yogaville in Buckingham, Virginia, an institution re-established by her mother, Rukmini "Amma" Rasiah. For over 30 years, she has been honored as a selected artist with the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Padmarani taught alongside her gurus, the Dhananjayans, for 25 years at the Natya Adhyayana Gurukulam Summer Camps in Yogaville, which trained hundreds of students. She also offers classes at her home studio in Richmond, Virginia, and continues to perform by invitation.
