🪔 About

Padmini Dorairajan is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, known for her contributions as a guru and institution founder. She is the founding artistic director of the Kalanjali School of Classical Indian Dance, which she initially established in India. Her dedication to the art form is evident through her teaching legacy, which includes her daughter, Dr. Smrita Dorairajan, who now serves as the artistic director of the school's U.S. branch. Padmini Dorairajan personally trained her daughter in Bharatanatyam from a young age. Among her notable students is Deepa P Mani, a talented Bharatanatyam and contemporary dancer who commenced her training under Padmini Dorairajan in Chennai at the age of six. Deepa P Mani was trained in the Pandanallur and Kalakshetra styles and graduated in 1998 with the title “Nritya Kala Ranjini,” further highlighting Dorairajan's influence and expertise in these classical traditions. Padmini Dorairajan's school has grown to educate numerous students, with her daughter mentioning approximately 100 students at one point. Her work has been instrumental in preserving and propagating Bharatanatyam across generations and continents. Awards & Honours: Kalaimamani.
