🪔 About

Padmini Ravi, born on August 5, 1957, embarked on her Bharatanatyam journey at the age of nine in 1966, joining Sarasalaya under the tutelage of the legendary K.J. Sarasa of the Vazhuvoor bani. She performed her Arangetram within two years of commencing her training. Her career spans over five decades as a distinguished performer, teacher, and choreographer. Padmini Ravi founded the Padmini Ravi Dance Academy in 1980, an institution that has trained over 1000 students globally, with approximately 500 becoming leading dancers and teachers. Her teaching philosophy extends beyond technical proficiency, focusing on dance as a medium for self-discovery, emotional balance, and awareness, rooted in the concept of "Intelligence" from the Upanishads. Ravi is known for her "non-traditional traditionalist" approach, integrating elements from theatre, folk forms, classical music, and cinematography into classical Bharatanatyam. She has also contributed to cinema, notably producing the National Award-winning feature film "Shringara," which received a grant from the Ford Foundation. Her expertise also includes audio and video recording and post-production. Padmini Ravi continues to offer workshops and advanced training, inspiring dancers worldwide. Awards & Honours: Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy Award, State Rajyotsava Award, National Award for film "Shringara", Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
